The front ashtray is built into the centre console. You open it by sliding or pushing the cover, and close by pressing the cover until it clicks shut
The ashtray insert is removable: slide the cover to open → grasp the insert and pull it upwards to remove it; to re-insert, press it back into its mountings.
The console may also include a 12 V cigarette-lighter / power socket near the ashtray socket, sometimes integrated together (depending on trim / market).
The centre console (“full length” console, in markets like US/Canada) for A4 (in many build-specs) includes dual integrated cupholders, a front & rear ashtray (front placed before/around gear-shift knob), and storage under the center armrest
